Decade 4 is a mission-driven initiative dedicated to promoting literacy, education, and a culture of reading across Zimbabwe. Our goal is simple yet impactful: to provide an opportunity for education. We have to change the narrative and understand that education of the mind is beyond or not limited to grades, diplomas and certificates. It is the awakening of the mind, the ability to think, and live free from text-book theories through education.
Growing up in a home filled with books, I witnessed firsthand the power of literature. My father, Dr. Charles Mungoshi, a celebrated writer, believed in sharing knowledge freely. He would joyfully give away books and engage in conversations about literature with those eager to learn. His passion inspired this movement—to make books accessible to those who need them the most.
In Zimbabwe, many people are unable to read not because they lack the ability, but because they have been led to believe reading has little value in their daily lives. Economic challenges, shifting priorities, and the lure of fast income have discouraged young people from embracing education. We aim to reverse this trend by reigniting a passion for reading and learning.
In Chitungwiza, we’re starting by helping 40 bright primary students stay in school, covering their fees for a year and providing 10,000 exercise books to local schools.
Our vision extends far beyond. We dream of expanding this impact, enlightening minds and raising future leaders in communities everywhere.
